And this hope will not leave us disappointed, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. (Rom5:5)
Today we celebrate the gift of God the Holy Spirit. God the Father is love. God the Son is love. God the Holy Spirit is love. St. Paul tells us that this love of the Holy Trinity is infused in our hearts through God the Holy Spirit. God makes His dwelling place within each of us.
Imagine being in the upper room with the disciples when they received the Holy Spirit. It was then that they saw Jesus in an entirely different way. They were filled with the overwhelming love of God. This love transformed them. This love burned away their fear and anxiety. They no longer would hide behind locked doors. Instead, we hear about the apostles sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ in the streets, synagogues etc.
We too have received the same Holy Spirit. We too have received this tremendous outpouring of God’s love. The Holy Spirit comes to us as well in fire, to burn away our fears, worries, resentments and all that is preventing us from totally surrendering our lives to being the agent of the love of God to those in our midst.
Today, we pray, “Come Holy Spirit!” Every day of our lives, we pray, “Come Holy Spirit!” Come Holy Spirit, show us how to pray! Come Holy Spirit, show us our sins, that we may with a contrite heart, seek the mercy of Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Come Holy Spirit, help us make decisions that seek the Will of God at all times. Come Holy Spirit, transform our minds and hearts!
May the Risen Christ bless us always!
