THE ELIJAH CUP PROGRAM

The Elijah Cup, our newest ministry at St. John’s, has been very successful during its first year.  Since May 2006, the Elijah Cup has been presented to over forty-five families, couples, and individuals willing to pray for an increase in vocations. Many families that participated in this program have expressed that it was a wonderful opportunity to pray together as a family. Plan ahead to participate in the Elijah Cup program based on the Sunday Mass you normally attend. The Elijah Cup presentation Mass schedule for the remainder of 2007 is as follows:

Month of May– 12:00 Mass
Month of June– 7:00 Mass/Sunday
Month of July– 5:30 Mass
Month of August – 7:00 Mass/Saturday
Month of September – 7:30 Mass
Month of October – 9:00 Mass
Month of November – 10:30 Mass
Month of December – 12:00 Mass

 The mission of this new ministry “The Elijah Cup” at St. John The Apostle will focus on praying for an increase in vocations to the Priesthood, Diaconate and Religious Life.  Parishioners who sign up to participate are presented, at the end of Mass, with “The Elijah Cup” (a consecrated Chalice used at the Mass) and a Prayer Basket, which contains a Prayer Journal, Bible,  Rosary beads, reading material on the religious life and several prayers.  The cup is kept for one week in their home while they pray for an increase in vocations.  Because the “Elijah Cup” has been blessed and dedicated to be exclusively used for holding the Precious Blood of Christ, it would never be used outside of Mass for any other purpose other than being a focal point of prayer in the home.
